The Milwaukee Bucks will continue their draft workouts Thursday morning with another group of second round prospects. The list, per Bucks PR:
Deonte Burton (G, 6-foot-1, 190 lbs, Nevada)
Nedim Buza (F, 6-foot-7, 190 lbs, Spars Sarajevo)
C.J. Fair (F, 6-foot-8, 215 lbs, Syracuse)
Victor Rudd (F, 6-foot-9, 235 lbs, South Florida)
JaKarr Sampson (F, 6-foot-9, 214 lbs, St. John’s)
Xavier Thames (G, 6-foot-3, 195 lbs, San Diego State)
Of the group, Burton appears to be the most talented, as he’s ranked 37 on the Draft Express top 100 prospects list. He’s also the most intriguing to me, as when I Googled his name, he had the most interesting suggestions along with it:
I’m no college basketball expert, so I hadn’t heard of Deonte Burton before this morning or at least I hadn’t remembered hearing about him. So upon seeing these results, I was intrigued. Did he go to Marquette all this time and I had never realized it? Did he dunk on Marquette? Was he supposed to go to Marquette? None of the above. It turns out Marquette also has a player named Deonte Burton who once threw in this very impressive dunk. This was not a strong start in my search for information Nevada’s Deonte Burton.
Nevada’s Burton has an impressive dunk highlight himself, to go along with a resume that includes a 20.4 points per game and 4.4 assists per game clip as a senior. He posted a 39.5″ vertical at the draft combine and possesses athleticism that Draft Express touts as “arguably the best of any point guard in this class”.
Buza is ranked 64 on the top 100 list. Draft Express cites him as an accomplished perimeter shooter and one of Europe’s top prospects at his age (19).
Fair comes in at 72 on the aforementioned list, with Sampson at 82 and Thames at 98. Rudd is unranked. An interesting fact about Fair is that, according to Draft Express, his agent is Torrel Harris, the father of Tobias Harris.
