Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 11 points in Greece’s 87-64 win over Senegal yesterday. He made both of his field goal attempts — a pair of transition dunks — while also converting 7 of 8 free throw attempts (for a total of 11 points on 2 field goals attempted). More than that, though, he was a legitimate influence on the game on both ends, even as he continued to come off the bench for Greece.
With Giannis: 19 minutes played, +22 point differential
Without Giannis: 21 minutes played, +1 point differential
The 19-year-old was definitely looking to push the ball in transition and to find his teammates in the halfcourt offense. On each of his three defensive rebounds, it seemed like Antetokounmpo was leaning into a dribble the other way before his feet even hit the ground. And on defense, Giannis had three steals and contested one Senegalese jump shot into an airball. It was all good stuff in this game, and it will be interesting to see if he can keep it up later in the tournament when the level of competition rises.
Antetokounmpo and Greece play today vs. the Philippines at 12:50 CT/1:50 ET. ESPN3 has a stream of the game: espn.go.com.
