Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 15 points to help Greece up their record to 3-0 in FIBA group play. Antetokounmpo shot 5-for-11 from the field and 5-for-8 from the free throw line, while also grabbing 3 rebounds. (The video below puts 4 of his 5 baskets in the game highlights.)

His steal led to a game-icing three-point play in transition where he — in typical Giannis fashion — finished the play with just a single dribble past mid-court before swooping in for a layup. Coming off the bench, his 23 minutes in this game were the most he has played in the tournament to date.

After a day off today, Greece has games Wednesday vs. Croatia (1 PM CT) and Thursday vs. Argentina (3 PM CT) before heading to the Round of 16 that gets underway over the weekend.

Greece and Spain are the only teams to post 3-0 records thus far. Three other teams, including the United States, have 2-0 records.

  1. The game is beginning to slow down for Giannis and he is beginning to shed those initial nerves that limited his effectiveness. His length and speed gives this team a dimension it hasn’t had before. I am looking forward to seeing Giannis Wednesday face off against Croatia’s own prodigy, Dario Saric. It will be Saric’s first test of NBA length and athleticism playing at his forward position.

So excited about Giannis, once the light comes on for him all the way I don’t there’s anything he can’t do. Can the season start now?
