London balling: Bucks 95 — Knicks 79

New York Knicks 79 Recap | Box Score 95 Milwaukee Bucks
Johnny O’Bryant III, PF 10 MIN | 0-2 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 0 PTS | +12 +/-The trio of O’Bryant, Ilyasova, and Martin was vastly unimpressive. “Give me Dudley at PF, or give me death.” — Patrick Henry

Giannis Antetokounmpo, SF 33 MIN | 6-10 FG | 4-5 FT | 5 REB | 0 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 16 PTS | +13 +/-After the game, Giannis suggested that the Knicks call up his brother, indicating that he probably had additional incentive to dunk all over Derek Fisher’s group of has-beens and wanna-bes. His two-handed flush in the first half over Carmelo was the play of the game. The Knicks were daring him to hit jumpers, and he made one out of the four he tried.

Zaza Pachulia, C 28 MIN | 2-8 FG | 7-8 FT | 14 REB | 5 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 3 TO | 11 PTS | +25 +/-If the goal for the 2014-15 Bucks is winning as many games as possible, Pachulia may be the most valuable/irreplaceable player. The rebounds, the passing, the stewardship of the young’uns — it’s quite impressive. He also gets to the line for lots of free throws, despite being a terrible finisher. It’s FT line or bust most of the time for Zaza, and it helped stemmed the damage in the fourth quarter.

Brandon Knight, PG 35 MIN | 6-13 FG | 6-6 FT | 5 REB | 6 AST | 6 STL | 0 BLK | 3 TO | 20 PTS | +20 +/-Another solid game for Knight. When he gets a lot of steals, as he did in this one (6!), the Bucks are that much more impactful, because it puts them in transition which is the optimal situation for Giannis.

Khris Middleton, SG 33 MIN | 4-9 FG | 4-6 FT | 6 REB | 5 AST | 3 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 14 PTS | +19 +/-Last year, Middleton averaged 1.2 steals per 36 minutes. This year, he’s up to 2.1 steals per 36 which ranks him 11th among players who have played 400 or more minutes this season.

Ersan Ilyasova, PF 12 MIN | 0-6 FG | 1-4 FT | 2 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 1 PTS | -8 +/-Something on the Bucks website/Twitter feed show Mr. and Mrs. Ilyasova on something like a red carpet this week. She must be mortified watching him try to draw charges while wearing a mask in his first game back from a concussion.

John Henson, C 18 MIN | 1-3 FG | 2-6 FT | 3 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 2 TO | 4 PTS | -5 +/-He and Khris Middleton are both playing defense with a level of intensity and mental focus that they didn’t reach last season, but even better, they have a fine synergy when doing it. This game still wasn’t his finest from a production standpoint.

Kendall Marshall, PG 4 MIN | 0-0 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | +4 +/-Hurt his ankle in the first half and left the game.

Jared Dudley, SG 23 MIN | 1-5 FG | 0-0 FT | 5 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 0 TO | 2 PTS | +1 +/-This game was one of the rare games where the starters were so much better than the Dudley-led bench (Mayo excepted). Dudley gave a warm greeting to the UK fans before tipoff.

O.J. Mayo, SG 24 MIN | 8-14 FG | 2-2 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 22 PTS | +9 +/-He was on fire at the end of the first quarter, scoring 8 points in 4 minutes on perfect shooting. When the Knicks sort of crept back into it late, he hit the transition three that would have merited a Cassell Big Bollocks Dance, if New York wasn’t atrocious.

Jason Kidd
He is 3-0 in London games the past three seasons.

  1. Dudley gave a warm greeting to the UK fans before tipoff. That was about the high point for Dudley, seems to be very streaky as a player 42.9 FG%, 25 3PFG% in January after 52.3 and 46.5% respectively in December

Loved the defensive intensity though, even if it was against a terrible team

  2. Coverage of this game on NBA TV was all about the Knicks. NBA needs to stop trashing the small market teams or they will be left with the Knicks & Nets vs the Lakers & Clippers. Geeez!

The good thing for Bucks fans is that our team was in control of this game from tip off to the final buzzer! They played inspired team ball and made us proud. We got the last laugh and that’s what matters most.

    Go Bucks!

    • Seriously! I didn’t catch their names, but the one announcer was seriously pissing me off the entire game. He had nothing valuable to say whatsoever.
