Wojnarowski: Bucks agree in principle to trade with Warriors

March 13th, 2012 Ian Segovia 16 comments

The Bucks were willing to do anything to get rid of Stephen Jackson after all.

This doesn’t look like much now, but if the rumors are to be believed, this could possibly be part of a process to get Monta Ellis to the Orlando Magic. Kwame Brown could have been thrown in the deal to make the numbers work. He is coming off the books at the end of the season. And Ekpe Udoh is an interesting case in the plus/minus stat: every time he enters the floor, his team goes on a run. His adjusted plus/minus for the year is 10.78 which is pretty impressive for a team as bad as the Warriors.

And so ends the Andrew Bogut era in Milwaukee. It was an era fraught with promising starts and rampant stops. Good luck to him, but the organization had to move away from a centerpiece that could never stay on the court.

The deal will be completed later tonight.

Bucks Have a Winning Streak Bucks 105 – Nets 99

Milwaukee Bucks 105 Final

Recap | Box Score

99 New Jersey Nets
Ersan Ilyasova, PF 24 MIN | 2-6 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 0 AST | 4 PTS | -6

Congrats to Ersan for winning the Eastern Conference player of the week. Boo to him for letting Kris Humphries control the boards. It was a battle of unheralded, but excellent rebounders and the more athletic Humphries was too quick to let Ilyasova get the tips that are so essential. Don’t be too harsh on him though. He was just displaying some of the wear and tear that comes after such a hard-fought, well-played week.

Tobias Harris, F 18 MIN | 1-5 FG | 2-2 FT | 0 REB | 1 AST | 4 PTS | -12

Being the one starter that hadn’t logged heavy minutes, he had the opportunity to showcase his skills today. It didn’t work out so much. His mostly unimpressive play might suggest that he shouldn’t get that much of a run. I’d say that he deserves even more of a run. Skiles has had little opportunity to see the first round pick play. There aren’t many practices in this strike shortened season. And Harris was out for much of training camp because of dehydration. He’s shown flashes. Give the rookie some run.

Drew Gooden, PF 37 MIN | 11-19 FG | 0-0 FT | 8 REB | 7 AST | 23 PTS | +5

Gooden’s passing was pretty fantastic this game. He was even part of the highlight of the game: a half court lob to Harris. This is weird. This is the same guy who just threw a ball into the stands last week. Tests still have yet to show who he was passing to. This is just the life of Gooden.

Brandon Jennings, PG 39 MIN | 12-23 FG | 4-5 FT | 7 REB | 7 AST | 34 PTS | +12

He was alright in the first half. Then he had a downright awful third quarter. He made up for it with barrage of threes early in the fourth that helped the Bucks nab the lead. He was pretty much pure fire for a three minute stretch. He was simply too fast for the Nets back-up point guards (Deron Williams didn’t play) and his stepbacks and backdoor cuts were too much for Jordan Farmar to handle.

Mike Dunleavy, SF 36 MIN | 6-13 FG | 2-2 FT | 4 REB | 6 AST | 15 PTS | +16

Dunleavy should be playing over Delfino because Dunleavy is the only one who can still affect the offense if he’s not shooting well. The passing between him, Jennings, Gooden and Udrih was exquisite and was the real engine behind the Bucks offense tonight.

One Thing We Saw

  1. The Bucks pull off their first three-game winning streak before the trade deadline. What an awkward time to do it especially when everyone is on the trading block. Even when they win, they can’t do it right.

Magic Sweep Bucks Decisively Bucks 98 – Magic 114

Milwaukee Bucks 98 Final

Recap | Box Score

114 Orlando Magic
Tobias Harris, F 21 MIN | 2-4 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 1 AST | 4 PTS | -5

He started! And for the first two minutes, he looked good around the rim with a dunk and an offensive rebound. What started as a promising night quickly turned sour as he was benched quickly in favor of Mbah a Moute.

Carlos Delfino, SF 29 MIN | 3-9 FG | 2-2 FT | 2 REB | 4 AST | 10 PTS | -9

Another game of Delfino being handily outplayed at the wing. There was one moment where the cameras showed Delfino talking to Ilyasova on the sideline. I thought to myself, “How?” That’s also my thinking on Delfino’s play dropping from “sufficient” to “awful.” What did he do during the all-star break?

Brandon Jennings, PG 32 MIN | 9-17 FG | 8-12 FT | 3 REB | 5 AST | 27 PTS | -16

Another strong outing for Jennings who wasn’t shooting very well. So what did he do? He attacked the rim and got to the free throw line. That wasn’t something Jennings did very often in his first two seasons, so it’s good to see him grow.

Mike Dunleavy, SF 30 MIN | 3-7 FG | 0-0 FT | 4 REB | 1 AST | 8 PTS | -5

Dunleavy was the engine that propelled the Bucks second quarter outburst with two threes and an assist in the second. After that, he was barely effective, missing two shots over the rest of the game.

Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, SF 24 MIN | 3-5 FG | 2-5 FT | 6 REB | 2 AST | 8 PTS | -11

Tobias Harris and Jon Leuer’s playing time has been taken by Moute for what reason? Moute didn’t exactly slow down the Magic offense. The Magic’s offensive efficiency for the game was a ridiculous 114.

Jon Brockman, F 7 MIN | 2-3 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 4 PTS | -3

Brockman found his niche on this team. Midway through the third quarter, Skiles had Brockman foul Dwight Howard the moment Howard crossed half court. It was mildly to not effective at all.

Jon Leuer, F 3 MIN | 0-1 FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 0 AST | 0 PTS | +2

Still alive.

Larry Sanders, C 12 MIN | 4-5 FG | 0-1 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 8 PTS | +10

Great shooting night for Larry Sanders. That hasn’t been/won’t be said very often, so we have to take opportunities when we get them.

Jennings 34 Not Enough Bucks 94 – Hawks 99

Milwaukee Bucks 94 Final

Recap | Box Score

99 Atlanta Hawks
Carlos Delfino, SF 42 MIN | 1-10 FG | 0-0 FT | 8 REB | 1 AST | 2 PTS | -11

Josh Smith, Tracy McGrady and Marvin Williams took turns depantsing Delfino throughout the night. Smith was especially cruel. Delfino had no rhythm on offense and no tenacity on defense.

Ersan Ilyasova, PF 25 MIN | 4-8 FG | 0-0 FT | 10 REB | 1 AST | 8 PTS | +7

Frankensova rose in time for a timely tip-in to put tie the game at 94 all. But then he lost his fellow vampire, Vladimir Radmanovic, who then hit a wide open game winning three. Besides those last two plays, it was a very non-descriptive night for Ilyasova.

Drew Gooden, PF 38 MIN | 8-21 FG | 9-9 FT | 10 REB | 1 AST | 26 PTS | -4
Brandon Jennings, PG 43 MIN | 10-23 FG | 9-11 FT | 3 REB | 9 AST | 34 PTS | -10

Jennings was spitting hot fire in the second and third. He had one stunning sequence: three, three, steal, floater. It was everything that Bucks fans want him to be. The question remains as to why he wasn’t heavily involved late in the game. Jennings never took a shot within the last 2 minutes of the game. Down 97-94, Jennings wasn’t trying very hard to get away from his man, a play that resulted in Drew Gooden’s Drew Goodenness.

Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, SF 23 MIN | 2-6 FG | 3-4 FT | 5 REB | 0 AST | 7 PTS | -12

23 minutes of playing four on five on offense. The clamor for Moute to develop an 18 footer has been going on for years. But why have the worst offensive player in a century take the worst possible shot on the court? In the past, I would say that they should just have Moute shoot at the rim, but he’s not even doing that well anymore. So the only answer may be not to play him.

Two Things We Saw

  1. So let me get this straight: down three and the play goes to Drew Gooden in the post where the defense absolutely suffocates him. The play was probably drawn up to be a bad three, but still, Drew Gooden was the back-up play.
  2. Tracy McGrady, Jerry Stackhouse and Vladimir Radmanovic sparked the Hawks run that won the game. It’s 2004 all over again.

The Bucks and I are sorry for the effort Bulls 110 – Bucks 91

Milwaukee Bucks 91 Final

Recap | Box Score

110 Chicago Bulls
Carlos Delfino, SF 38 MIN | 3-12 FG | 0-0 FT | 5 REB | 4 AST | 7 PTS | -11

Was there.

Ersan Ilyasova, PF 27 MIN | 6-11 FG | 2-2 FT | 4 REB | 1 AST | 15 PTS | -12

Overmatched, overworked, overwhelmed.

Jon Leuer, F 20 MIN | 7-11 FG | 0-0 FT | 4 REB | 0 AST | 14 PTS | -12

He was an offensive darling tonight, but he was filleted on defense. Man? Bad. Help? Bad. For all the awareness he has on offense, the exact opposite is true for his defense.

Brandon Jennings, PG 34 MIN | 8-20 FG | 4-6 FT | 3 REB | 5 AST | 20 PTS | -19

Doing just enough for his purposes.

Mike Dunleavy, SF 18 MIN | 1-7 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 1 AST | 2 PTS | -10

Efficiently occupied space and time.

Jon Brockman, F 10 MIN | 0-0 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 1 AST | 0 PTS | -1

Brockman’s ten minutes hurt my soul.

Larry Sanders, C 22 MIN | 2-8 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 0 AST | 4 PTS | -4

*sing to rhythm of the chorus of Hypnotize by Biggie.

Larry, Larry, Larry can’t you see, sometimes your blocks just hypnotize me. And I just love your flashy ways, but you can’t catch so you don’t play.

Drew Gooden, PF DNP RIGHT WRIST SPRAIN MIN | FG | FT | REB | AST | PTS |

YOU ARE MISSED.

Two Things We Saw

  1. Never thought I would write those words next to Drew Gooden’s name.
  2. The Bucks head into All-Star weekend with a whimper. So it’ll be nice to spend several days without any of these people in our lives.
